BANK OF THE WEST CLASSIC > STANFORD > HARD > TIER II > ROUND 2
If Anne Keothavong had taken her chance, then Marion fans this morning would be looking forward to another post-match post-mortem. But knowing Marion as we do; a blend of opportunism and sheer fight won her this match.
Early breaks of the Keothavong serve ensured Marion flew away with the first set. Going 4-1 up, and taking the set 6-3.
A 2nd set injury time out for treament to Marion's leg, and things where straying off course. The plucky Brit effectively signalled that she thought the French bird was right for the plucking, and took full advantage - Keothavong duly won the 2nd set.
It is worth pointing out that one of Marion's injury time-outs against Mattek at Wimbledon was also for treatment to her leg. She has been bandaged many times this past year or so in that area of her body.
Down a double break in the final set, and just a point away from 1-5, Marion refused to feather-bed a route to the quarter-final for her opponent. Standing inside the baseline to recieve the ball early, Marion showed aggressive play and fighting spirit to win 15 points in a row and haul the set level at 5-5.
Breaking her opponent at just the right time, experience told in the end as Marion took the set 7-5, and sealed the match.
To be fair to Keothavong, she accumulated the same amount of games in the match as Marion did, but with the margin of difference relatively minimal in professional tennis compared with us mere mortals, matches arent only settled on point-scoring. Literally and metaphorically, point-scoring can be an act in vain, if not harmonised with the subtlties of timing. As a top player, Marion showed she had that sense of perfect timing.
But admitteddly there was also a wiff of the heroic act of escapology about this result too. That's winners for ya! ![]()
Of the match, Marion said, "From one double break down it was almost the end for me. I decided I was going to win this match whatever it takes. Anne was playing so well from the baseline and was hardly missing one ball. It was hard to do it but I was able to get those winners."

so, I have watched the match and it was not a good match, we saw a lot of errors. yet, at the end marion played well. I think that this match will be good for her confidence but the match against chakvetadze will be tough if she has the same level.
do you know if she is really injured?
thank you and thank you for your french sentence!
GOOD LUCK MARION!!!
