In the 2nd round Marion plays Virginia Ruano Pascual, who came back from a set and a break down to beat young Czech Petra Kvitova in three sets this evening.

Best known for her highly successful doubles reign with Paolo Suarez, the Spanish veteran's career prospects have seen better days. Formerly world number 1 in doubles, Ruano Pascual also held a respectable top 30 singles ranking at the turn of the millenium. In 2008 she is 8-13 for the year and has slipped out of the top 100.

Marion leads the head to head 2-0 without having dropped a set in either of their previous encounters, one of which includes a 6-0 6-4 hard court win at New Haven last year.

Nevertheless, after todays impressive comeback, Marion will no doubt be well motivated to maintain her clean record against the Spaniard.
