Bepa Dissmisses Marion
A shock and awe performance from Vera Zvonareva sent Marion crashing out of the Porsche Grand Prix. The Russian won 6-2 6-0 in less than an hour.
Once Zvonareva had finally broken Marion's serve in a long opening game, she was firmly in the driving seat for the remainder of the match.
With her opponents blend of patient, intelligent, and accurate play, Marion could find no way back into the match.
Zvonareva said, "I didn't give her a chance to get into the match. I played pretty well and consistent."
It's fair to say that along with Dinara Safina, Vera is one of the form players of the year. Today she showed why she is an impressive 54 wins to 17 defeats for the year.
Marion wasnt especially error prone today. In addition, her serve percentage was comparable with Zvonareva's.
Tactically hamstrung by a slow surface, it was difficult for Marion to regroup and set the agenda of play.
The match was being played on her opponents terms, she just couldnt get her arsenal out to play today. Marion has the weapons, but the artillery was bogged down in the mud.
The court jester played on. Soldiergirl Bartoli was dismissed from duty.
Whilst it will be dissapointing for Marion to lose so heavily on her birthday, we wish the number one Frenchwoman a happy birthday, and many successes in the next 12 months.
