Dont you just love some of the magnificant images of Marion that we see following each match.

Sometimes photos just take you somewhere. You feel like you could sail away in some extempore dream, just on the basis of staring in awe at a hero captured in action.

You may very well have impressions and mental imagery of your own about Marion.

Sailing away is quite an apt illustration of the photo of Marion attached above. I was looking at it earlier today. The thought occured to me that it looks something like one of those stylish art-deco posters of  an ocean-liner from the 1930's or 40's. You know the type I mean?  Something like the photo top right.

As the ship approaches head on, the elegant hulk of her bow rises and dwarfs all.  Maybe Marion's face is like the ships bridge. Her out-reaching arm like like the bow. Her strong curvy chest equivalent with the hull, coated in splendid red and white or black and white livery. And lastly, the long tresses in her hair as she runs, like the steam trail from the liner's funnels. Making waves on court of course!

Now I kind of understand why ships are referred to in female pronouns.

She prepares to launch the ball like the launching of a ship before it plunges down the gantry and settles in the water.

SS. Marion Bartoli.

We watch the launch and cheer our support with great pride.

Built by Walter Bartoli & Co. Built to last.

Built to tour the world, all year round.

As Marion said herself  "I'm a strong girl. I can go far!"

Or as my favorite music artist Laura Nyro sung..

Rosie Pearl is a big strong girl, and she sails around like a steamboat..
