Marion Through To Last 16 In Osaka
Moshi moshi
Ms. Mental Toughness duz it again. With just two points conceded in the opening two games, Marion began the match with an early cushion, and things were running true to form.
Then Marion seemed to have a little struggle with her inner goddess as she was broken to love, 4-1 up.
A tense service hold in which Voskoebova produced two double faults and three aces in one game, indicates that the 24 year old was giving the ball a fair old clatter today at Utsubo Tennis Center.
Marion's opponent seemed to be showing more signs of coming into the contest, and would be keen to prevent a repeat of her 6-2 6-3 defeat against Marion from last year’s US Open. However the French number 1 held her next service game and restored her double break cushion to close out the set with cool professionalism, 6-3.
2nd Set
Hauling herself back from 15-40, Marion clung on as the match geared up for the gathering Khazak storm. After four deuces, and a 4th and 5th double fault of the match, Marion denied her opponent the early break of serve. However it wasn't for long as Voskoboeva converted her 2nd of 10 break points earned over the course of the match.
With a hold to love and another break it was soon 5-2 - Voskoboeva entering a purple patch sweet enough to turn Marion Bartoli, "tomato red". But soon the brief storm had passed and Osaka was spared.. it was time to reap the whirlwind... Do you remember 5-2 down against Bacsinszky at Wimbledon? Or 4-1 down final set against Keothavong at Stanford last year? or a set and 5-1 down against Zvonareva last week?
A vengeful Voskoboeva understandably would be wanting to avert the indignity of a fifth career loss to our hero, but it wasn't to be. Marion Bartoli conceded just three points over the next 5 games as she stormed back to take the match 7-5 in the 2nd, closing to love.
When you’re the top seed in the half, players are gunning for you, it's just about getting through the rounds. Marion did a good job today. Next up for Marion is Japanese wildcard Kurumi Nara who did well to defeat South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers over three sets.
45th win of the season for Marion Bartoli!
