Doha Hopes Deferred As Brave Marion Succumbs To Injury

Marion retired at 4-6 0-2. As expected, it was a tough hard fought first set. Marion was getting a high percentage of first serves in, close to 70%. She had 0-40 on Sania's serve at least twice in the match, but couldn't convert. Sania was up for this, while Marion's performance was impaired right from the start by a shoulder problem.

So no trip to Doha, Marion said that she just wants to be ready for her next tournament. This means that her courageous last gasp attempt to reach the Year Ending Championships in Doha has unfortunately not met with success this year. Of her injury she explains, "It's a problem with a tendon in my right shoulder. I felt it from the first point, but hadn't felt anything before, I'm very disappointed but I'm also in a lot of pain."

It's the intention of the French number 1 to be ready for the season finale in Bali on Nov 4, "I'll rest for a while so I'm in the best shape for my next tournament, the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Bali." With lots of ranking points up for grabs and the chance to win another trophy, Marion will have a great opportunity to end her season on a high note.
